Move with Arthritis Research

I'm fundraising for...

I’m fundraising for arthritis research because arthritis affects over 6 million people in Canada. It is often an invisible disease that impacts daily life in ways many don’t see.

I’m taking part in the MOVE with Arthritis Research challenge by committing to a total of 30 minutes of movement, 5 days a week. Every dollar raised will support life-changing arthritis research.

Thank you for supporting me and helping fund research that makes a difference.

My Why...

Thursday 27th Aug

Arthritis is a disease that has had a significant impact on my family.

My mom has suffered with rheumatoid and osteoarthritis since her early 40s, resulting in deformities to her hands, several back surgeries, limited mobility, ongoing stomach issues, high blood pressure and other comorbidities.  She also has struggled with osteoporosis which has led to many bone breaks over the years as well. Pain, discomfort and disability are part of her every day life.  Despite this, she remains as physically active and mobile as she can be.  She has never given in to this disease, which impacts more than 6 million Canadians.

My dad also had osteoarthritis in his knees and neuropathy in his feet, and at times his pain was so intense that the basic luxury of walking was more than he could bare.  His arthritic pain made it very hard for him to stay active, which led to many other heart-related, diabetes and kidney issues for him.  In his final months, he endured an incredibly painful fall and slowly loss his mobility entirely.  It was devastating to watch such a strong man struggle.

Movement is not something I have ever taken for granted, but the more I learn about arthritis through my role and witness first-hand through my parents, I am determined that movement is critical for improving quality of life, especially for people living with arthritis.

This September, I am participating in MOVE with Arthritis Research to raise awareness and funds to ensure our scientists can continue to advance research that helps people with arthritis live better now.  I hope you will consider supporting me.
