MOVE with Arthritis Research Canada

One of the highlights of MOVE with Arthritis Research presented by Beachcomber Hot Tubs is our series of free virtual exercise sessions, exclusive to MOVE registrants.

These sessions are hosted by Arthritis Research Canada team members who are passionate about helping people with arthritis stay active.

Throughout September, you'll have the opportunity to join three live sessions designed to help you be physically active while learning about the research that's improving arthritis care.

Each one-hour session includes accessible exercises for a range of abilities, insights into the host's research, and a live Q&A where you can ask questions.

Only MOVE participants receive access to these sessions, so make sure to register by the dates below. 

 

MOVE with Mindfulness with Ellen Wang

Wednesday, September 16 at 10 a.m. PST

Join Arthritis Research Canada trainee Ellen Wang for MOVE with Mindfulness, an interactive one-hour session that combines mindfulness with accessible exercises designed for people living with arthritis.

The class includes a five-minute warm-up followed by approximately 30 minutes of guided exercises inspired by yoga and functional movement patterns, including squats, pushing, and pulling movements. Throughout the session, participants will be encouraged to focus on moving with awareness, confidence, and comfort at their own pace. No equipment or props are required. 

About Ellen Wang:

Ellen is a recent graduate of the Master of Physical Therapy program and a PhD candidate at the University of British Columbia. She integrates clinical training, academic research, passion for advocacy, and lived experience into her practice. Ellen’s research work focuses on supporting older adults with chronic conditions and mobility challenges, promoting physical activity for people living with arthritis, and exploring what it means for research to be led by patients and/or the public.

MOVE with Strength with Dr. Jasmin Ma

Join Arthritis Research Canada clinician investigator Dr. Jasmin Ma for MOVE with Strength, an interactive one-hour exercise session designed to help you build strength and confidence in movement.

Participants will be provided with movement options to help create a safe and accessible experience for everyone. Minimal equipment, such as resistance bands, cans or other household items, or body weight, is needed for this session. 

About Dr. Jasmin Ma:

Dr. Jasmin Ma is an Associate Professor of teaching in the School of Kinesiology at the University of British Columbia, a Clinician Investigator with Arthritis Research Canada, and an Investigator with the International Collaboration on Repair Discoveries. Dr. Ma leads the I START (Improving Strength Training and Tailoring among people with Rheumatoid Arthritis) project, which aims to support people with rheumatoid arthritis to participate in strength training. She also leads the Movement 4 All Lab at the University of British Columbia, which focuses on the co-creation of trainings, tools, interventions, and experiential learning opportunities to support people with chronic diseases and disability to be physically active.

MOVE with Balance with Dr. Manuel (Manny) Ester

Join Arthritis Research Canada postdoctoral researcher Dr. Manuel (Manny) Ester for MOVE with Balance, an interactive one-hour session designed to help you improve balance, mobility, and confidence through accessible movement.

Participants will move through a combination of seated and standing cardio moves, balance practice, and bodyweight mobility for your joints. The focus of the session is on continuous movement to improve mobility and empower you to stay active in daily life. Throughout the session, Dr. Ester will share practical strategies to help you build sustainable movement habits. 

About Dr. Manny Ester:

Dr. Ester is a postdoctoral associate at the University of Calgary’s McCaig Institute for Bone and Joint Health. Along with people living with arthritis, he created the online resource Just One Move, which is a research-driven online platform and community that helps make physical activity more accessible, realistic, and sustainable for people with arthritis. He is passionate about the power of movement, and he works with healthcare teams and people living with arthritis to integrate physical activity promotion into routine care.
